Treatment of dysmetria in Malaga

Generally, we all have a certain dissymmetry between our legs, since humans are asymmetrical both on the outside and on the inside, so finding a certain discrepancy should not alarm us. When this discrepancy is more pronounced, it causes pain and injuries. Do you think you have dismetria? Make an appointment with our specialists.

What types of dismetries are there?

Dysmetria refers to a difference in length between the lower limbs. There are two main types:
Anatomical dysmetria: Derived from a real difference in the length of the leg bones (femur and/or tibia). They can be congenital, traumatic or due to developmental disorders.

Postural or functional dismetries: These are “false asymmetries” caused by postural problems in load-bearing joints (spine, pelvis, knees, feet) and alterations in muscle chains.

At Clínica Poyatos we have been helping people from Malaga to take care of their feet for over 60 years. Make an appointment and we will assess possible dismetries in your feet or hips.

Symptoms of untreated dysmetria

Untreated dismetries can cause:

  • Back, hip, knee or foot pain.
  • Asymmetric muscle overloads.
  • Changes in gait and balance.
  • Uneven wear of footwear

Ask for a first appointment.

It is important to be assessed by a specialist podiatrist. At Clínica Poyatos we have been treating pathologies such as dysmetria in Malaga for over 60 years.

How to treat dysmetria?

How is dysmetria diagnosed?

Accurate diagnosis of limb length differences in a biomechanical study requires combining clinical observation, movement analysis and specialized technology, with telemetry being the most definitive test to quantify the difference in length between limbs.

Visiting a podiatrist specialising in biomechanics and posturology in Malaga can help prevent, detect and effectively treat dismetries, helping to avoid pain and injuries caused by them. Make an appointment and our specialised podiatrists will make an accurate diagnosis!

What happens if conservative treatment does not work?

If conservative treatment is not effective or the metatarsalgia is very severe, surgery may be considered.

This option includes:

  • Osteotomies (cuts in the bone) to relieve excessive pressure on the metatarsal heads.
  • The most common techniques are Weil or triple Weil type osteotomies.
  • The surgery is usually performed on an outpatient basis, with local anesthesia.
