Plantar fasciitis treatment in Malaga

Do you have pain in your heel? It could be plantar fasciitis. Plantar fasciitis occurs when the plantar fascia, an elastic tissue located in the heel and extending under the toes, becomes inflamed. The plantar fascia has an important biomechanical function when walking. At Clínica Poyatos we can help you treat it effectively.

How does plantar fasciitis occur?

Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of pain in the sole of the foot, characterized by a sharp, aching pain in the heel area and the inner part of the sole of the foot. This condition involves inflammation of the plantar fascia, a thick band of tissue that runs along the bottom of the foot, connecting the calcaneus (heel) bone to the toes and forming the arch of the foot.

Therefore, it is important to be assessed by a specialist podiatrist. At Clínica Poyatos we have been treating plantar fasciitis in Malaga for over 60 years.

Plantar fasciitis occurs when the plantar fascia is stretched or overstretched, causing it to become inflamed. Although it is more common in people who regularly play sports, it can also affect those who do not exercise, due to various causes such as:

  • Changes in the shape of the foot (flat feet, valgus feet, etc.)
  • Differences in leg length.
  • Problems in the ankle or posterior leg muscles.

Treatment of plantar fasciitis

We believe that treatment for plantar fasciitis should be etiological if possible, that is, we should treat the cause or trigger of plantar fasciitis. Each case is studied individually.

At Clínica Poyatos we recommend leaving surgery as a last resort and always treating the problem from the root with a more conservative than aggressive approach.

If you experience heel pain when putting weight on your foot without having suffered an injury, it is very likely that you are beginning to develop plantar fasciitis. This pain, which is usually more intense during the first hours of the day and can persist for 3 or 4 days, indicates that it is time to consult a podiatrist.

Don’t hesitate to make an appointment with us if you feel discomfort in the sole of your foot when walking or running, as it could be plantar fasciitis. Early treatment not only relieves pain, but also prevents possible complications in the knees or hips.
